Camille Basurto, Owner, states it all started with baking chocolate chip cookies at home from scratch with her mom for the holidays. “Growing up, I loved helping my mom bake. Whether it was chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, or simple boxed birthday cake, they’re special memories that my mom and I shared together. Now, I get to share those same experiences with my daughter”, she states. “While she’s not old enough to help with orders quite yet, any personal celebration and she’s in there with me, learning and helping. You may even catch her ‘helping’ during markets as well.”

Camille states she remembers feeling encouraged watching her mom bake dozens of cookies to sell at work to help her go to her national cheer competition. “My mom already worked 40 hours a week, but in 7th grade when my cheer team won our regional competition and were told we were headed to nationals at Walt Disney World in Florida, I saw my mom stay up late every night and wake up early every morning, baking dozens of cookies each day. Everyone already loved her chocolate chip cookies during the holidays, and I would go on to watch her sell dozens at a time to people to help me cheer with my team.” Camille states how that inspired her to sell chocolate chip cookies during school as well.

“I would go onto bake cookies to sell during my middle school and high school years. While I wasn’t selling dozens to each person, I definitely started selling out before lunch fast,” she states. “I didn’t know it then, but this was the start of my business.”

Though, she didn’t stop at chocolate chip cookies. “Before I knew it, baking became my love language,” Camille continues. “I was baking for my coworkers at my jobs, helping my mom bake, trying out new recipes for the sake of it, baking for birthdays, holidays, as ‘thank you’s, you name it and I was probably by the oven.” She explains how baking for family and friends turned into encouragement from them that it was something that should be available for the rest of her community to have access to and try.

“I was working a job with Santa Clara County while I was in the process of testing recipes with friends/family, getting my licenses in order, building my brand, and just getting all my ducks in a row for my business,” Camille explains. “When suddenly on October 28, 2024, my sister passed away from a drunk driver on her way to work 5 days before her 36th birthday. This halted everything for me. However, my sister was not one who ever let life stop her. I remembered the business she built with her husband and her family- “MMM… Churros!” located in Hollister, CA- the business she worked for on top of working 60+ hour weeks as a dispatcher for Santa Clara County, being an active mom to 3 kids, even winning awards for both her business and her line of work. I remembered how hard my sister worked and what she did for her family and community. I picked up where I left off with my permits and menu, and officially opened Baking Con Amor 408 in May 2025.”
